Vaccinations
Routine
health maintenance is the key to protecting your cat. We recommend a thorough
yearly examination, intestinal parasite screen and vaccinations appropriate for
your cat’s life style. Vaccinations are administered in accordance with the
recommendations of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).
The
vaccination of cats against Rabies is required by law in the State of Florida.
For all cats we recommend vaccinating against Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper),
Rhinotracheitis and Calici Virus. For those cats that spend time outside or have
a risk of exposure to Feline Leukemia, we recommend a yearly Feline Leukemia
vaccine booster. The necessity and safety of any vaccine
can be discussed with the veterinarian at the time of your appointment.
An
Escambia County ordinance requires the purchase of a County License at the time
of rabies vaccination. The County License is valid for one year.
For the
protection of your pets and other client’s pets, all cats coming into the hospital
must be current on their vaccinations.
Surgeries
Cat Clinic of Pensacola
is a full service surgical facility. We use only the safest, most modern
techniques and equipment. Most surgeries are performed using
inhalant gas anesthesia.
Surgeries are done using sterile technique and your pet is continuously
monitored using EKG and respiratory monitors. Additionally a
veterinary technician is present to monitor the anesthesia level and to assist
the doctor during the surgery.
Prior to
surgery all patients are given an examination by the veterinarian to be sure
that they are healthy enough for the surgical procedure. We also recommend a
pre-surgical screening that includes x-rays and blood work prior to anesthetic
induction. These tests enable the veterinarian to further assess each cat’s
general health and also to evaluate kidney and liver function prior to
anesthesia.
All
surgeries, except for emergency surgeries, should be scheduled in advance.
Surgeries are performed weekdays between 1 and 3 pm. Pets should be dropped
off between 9am and 10am on the day of their surgery unless otherwise specified.
All patients must be current on their vaccinations and free of fleas before they are admitted into
the hospital. At the time you schedule your pet’s surgery you will be given
pre-surgical instructions. Upon discharge
you will receive post-operative care information.
Prerequisites - For your cat's
protection, Cat Clinic of Pensacola accepts as boarders only those cats current
on Rabies, and Distemper/Respiratory Vaccinations. Any cats harboring fleas will
be treated so as to prevent the sharing of their little friends with their
neighbor cats.
